It’s important to note that stage fright is a common and natural reaction, and many performers, including seasoned professionals, experience it to varying degrees. Strategies such as rehearsal, relaxation techniques, and seeking professional help (e.g., therapy or coaching) can help individuals manage and overcome stage fright. With practice and support, many people can learn to cope with and even use the adrenaline from stage fright to enhance their performances. Below, I have listed 5 unconventional ways to help you manage stage fright. I still use these techniques even as a professional:
1. Breathe in and out
Try this before going on stage. Breathing in and out can help regulate your breath and reduce anxiety. Do it for 30 Secs. before going up to speak.
2. Embrace the Butterflies:
Instead of trying to eliminate nervousness, acknowledge it as a source of energy. Convert that nervous energy into enthusiasm for your performance.
3. Power Poses
Before going on stage, strike a power pose for a couple of minutes. Research suggests that open, confident postures can help boost self-assurance.
4. Visualize the Audience Naked or in Silly Outfits
This classic technique can be surprisingly effective in making you feel less intimidated by the audience.
5. Audience Interaction
Make your audience part of the performance. Ask questions, involve them in a demonstration, or create a dialogue. It can shift the focus away from your anxiety.
Remember, stage fright is common, and these tips can help you manage it in your own unique way. The key is to find what works best for you and your personality.
