Tame the Nerves: Take deep breaths and visualize success.
Be Yourself: You are the boss; you are in charge. So let your personality shine through.
Speak with so much clarity and loud enough for everyone to hear.

This did not just happen overnight. Stage presence isn’t just about booming voices and delivering some jokes. It’s about commanding the space and connecting with the audience through your entire being.

Here are some valuable tips:

1. Stand Tall, Be Seen:

Picture Basketmouth effortlessly navigating the stage at “Lord of the Ribs.” Confidence starts with posture. Stand tall with your shoulders back and head held high.  Imagine a golden thread pulling you upwards. This projects confidence and allows your voice to resonate clearly.

2. Make Eye Contact, connect with the audience:

Eye contact is powerful.  Scan the room, making eye contact with different sections for a few seconds each. This creates a sense of connection and keeps the audience engaged. When you stare into their eye balls, you eliminate the fear of being intimidated by their presence, giving you control and courage to go through till the end.

3. The Power of Pause:

There is this Nigerian event host, IK Osakioduwa, I respect his style of presentation so much and I admire the way he lets a joke simmer before delivering the punchline. Pausing after key points builds anticipation and emphasizes your message.  Don’t be afraid of silence – it can be your most powerful tool.

4. Move with Purpose, Don’t Fidget: 

Move with intention, using gestures to accentuate your points. Avoid fidgeting or nervous pacing – it distracts the audience.

5. Let Your Face Speak: 

Remember how Trevor Noah elicits emotions with just a facial expression? Your face is a powerful tool. Use facial expressions to mirror your emotions – smile for humor, widen your eyes for surprise, and furrow your brow for seriousness.

Remember, mastering stage presence and body language takes practice.  Start small, record yourself, and get feedback from trusted friends.  With dedication, you too can command the stage and leave audiences wanting more!
